Elevate Your Workout Wardrobe: My Go-To Activewear Brands & Pieces

If you know me, you know I’m an active person through and through. With two marathons under my belt (NBD) and a side hustle as a spin instructor, I’ve put plenty of activewear to the test. From performance to comfort, I know what makes an activewear set worth reaching for again and again.

Having quality activewear is more than just a workout essential for me—it’s a motivator. When I’ve got a stylish and supportive set, I’m that much more excited to hit the gym or head out on a run. So, I’ve rounded up my favourite brands that check all the boxes for durability, fit, and style. If you’re looking to elevate your workouts, these picks will have you looking stylish while you get on a good sweat.

  1. MPG

If sustainability is a priority for you, you need to check out MPG. As a B Corp certified company, they make it easy to treat yourself to new activewear without compromising on eco-friendliness. I recently picked up an adorable ballet pink set from them in a new fabric called "liquid" that has a beautiful shine. I love wearing this set to Pilates; it moves with my body and keeps me feeling supported through every move. And honestly, what says "Pilates princess" better than a matching pink set? For the full look, they also have a super cute knit wrap top that feels totally ballerina-inspired!

2. Lululemon

I know, you're probably thinking, "Maddi, we all know about Lululemon." But I have to talk about the Wunder Train fabric! Not to overshare, but I sweat—a lot—especially when I’m teaching. So, a good sweat-wicking fabric is essential for me on the podium. Wunder Train feels just like the cult-favourite Align fabric, but it’s designed for high-intensity workouts, so it absorbs sweat like a dream. It’s incredibly soft, making it the perfect set for both the gym and beyond. I own it in a few colours, but my favourite is the shade “Hot Heat,” which, sadly, Lululemon discontinued. This is my official plea to anyone at Lulu HQ: please bring it back!

3. Set Active

Set Active is the it-girl activewear brand. I first discovered them (thanks to Instagram) during COVID when matching activewear sets started trending. Initially, I thought they were just another Instagram brand—until I ordered a set myself. Not only do they have the cutest colors and styles, but their SportBody fabric is the real deal. I even ran an entire marathon in it! The bra was super supportive, stayed in place without constant adjustments, and, most importantly, there was no chafing! Running 42 km in that fabric made it a staple in my activewear rotation. They also make the cutest activewear dress in the SportBody fabric (see left pic) and it’s definitely one of my most compliments activewear pieces.

Hot tip: Keep an eye out for Set Active’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales! They release limited edition colours and styles, making it the perfect time to try the brand if you’re new to it.

4. Alo

Alo is a bit of a controversial brand—some people love it, others aren’t as convinced. I get it; the price tag can be intimidating. But last year, around Black Friday, I decided to check out the Alo store at Eaton Centre to see if they had any deals. Here’s an insider tip: the website is about 30% more expensive because it includes duties! So, the store prices are actually closer to Lululemon’s price point, and with the 30% Black Friday discount, you’re basically getting an Alo set for 60% off! (girl math)

I picked up the Alo Airlift set, and I can’t even explain how confident it makes me feel. When I have a big class to teach and need to feel good and get in the zone, my Alo set is my go-to. It’s incredibly soft and super flattering. So, if you’ve been wanting to buy an Alo set, keep an eye out around Black Friday, or head to your nearest Alo store!

I hope this round up inspires you to treat yourself to a new activewear set. Because you work hard and you deserve it!

Mads
